The Geography of Pliny the Elder

The Ancient World Mapping Center is excited to announce that The Geography of Pliny the Elder, the latest entry in the Maps for Texts series, is now available at this link: https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/34c49dbd58984226aa213243f3787ff9/. This map compiles and maps the geographic data in Pliny’s Natural History. The database, available here, includes some 6,500 unique entries, and this application maps all those entries that are locatable. Users can click on a feature or use the search function to find citations in Pliny and a link to a feature’s associated Pleiades entry, where further data, much of it beyond the scope of Pliny, can be found.

Crossroads of Civilization

UNC History Professor Eren Tasar is offering a new online course through thegreatcourses.comCrossroads of Civilization: A History of Central Asia explores the rich and complex history of Central Asia, a land shaped by empires, trade, and cultural exchange. From the nomadic Scythians to the rise of Islam and the Soviet era, this region has been a crossroads of civilizations. In a series of 24 lectures, Professor Tasar covers its vibrant cultures, legendary cities, and conquests. The course highlights artistic achievements, religious diversity, and the impact of Russian and Chinese rule, offering a deep understanding of Central Asia’s lasting influence on global history.

Managing Your Research: Project Planning and Data Management for the Humanities and Social Sciences
