Hello Colleagues,

First off, to all of those receiving degrees and graduating, congratulations!!! The DHL wanted to send out one last email before we go on (hopefully) grand summer adventures.

Our new podcast, The Cutting Room Floor, has just dropped its first episode! In Episode One, “Transcontinental Golf,” PhD Candidate and Co-Host Craig Gill tells the story of two fame hungry twenty-somethings from Mobile, Alabama. On a rainy Sunday morning in February 1927, they set off on an incredible journey. You can listen to it on Spotify now and soon on other platforms. Stay tuned to our website for more information on the episode.

The Cutting Room Floor has more exciting episodes planned for the Fall, including one on Nazis and mysticism and another on a giant fish who terrorized a Sicilian town. If you have an idea, please get in touch with us and we will make plans for a Fall recording.

Secondly, we just started a new blog, DH Showcase, to promote some of the many amazing digital and public history projects faculty and students are creating here at UNC. The first post comes from Michael Robert Gawlik, an MA Student focusing on Visual Communication at UNC’s Hussman School of Journalism and Media.

If you’d like to feature a project on the blog, please get in touch with us! We’d love to showcase your work on the website.

The DHL will have limited availability over the summer for website updates, consultations, and for answering digital questions. You can email us at dhl@unc.edu to set up a time to talk or ask your questions.

Congratulations again to all and have a good summer.

The DHL

Emma, Craig, Gabe, and Ash
